Jordan School District offers free educational services for children with disabilities (3 to 5 years old). A child is determined to be eligible for services through a screening and testing process. To qualify, a child must demonstrate developmental delays as established by the Utah State Office of Education in one or more of the following areas:
- Communications/Language Skills
- Motor Skills
- Adaptive (self help) skills
- Social and Emotional Development
Special education services are designed to meet the specialized needs of individual children. Services are held in designated elementary schools in Jordan School District. These services are provided by special education teachers, related service providers, and para-educators.
All services are individualized to meet the educational needs of a student. A child may be eligible for related services that may include the following:
- Speech – Language Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Vision and Hearing Services
- Occupational Therapy
Children whose primary need is speech therapy are served in either a small group setting at Joel P. Jensen Middle School, Kauri Sue Hamilton School, or at their home school. Parents are also trained to carry out the speech program in the home setting.
